Bouris teams up with Uber

first_img Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram Technology is the way forward, and a number of young Australians have entrepreneurial aspirations and ideas that have the potential to be the next big thing. However, according to entrepreneur Mark Bouris, the challenge is finding a way to fund those ideas and make them a reality. “These guys and girls are telling me – and it’s constant – that they cannot get in front of venture capitalists, that they cannot get in front of mentors, they cannot get in front of advisors, they just can’t even get in front of anyone to even put their idea up,” Bouris said.“They seem to be relegated to sitting around at night with their mates, talking the ideas over with a few beers. That’s not good enough.”That’s where UberPITCH comes in. Bouris has teamed up with ‘ride-sharing’ company Uber for a one-day event, which will give start-up founders and entrepreneurs the opportunity to come into direct contact with business leaders, but instead of taking place in an office, it’ll be in the back of a cab.To have a chance to take part, request ‘pitch ride’ via the app. Those lucky enough to be selected will be picked up in an Uber ride by either Bouris himself, or one of four entrepreneurs, giving the candidate seven minutes to pitch their business idea, followed by another seven minutes of feedback. The top idea will then be featured on Bouris’ new web series, The Mark Bouris Show, with a chance to secure ongoing mentoring and funding, along with a trip to San Francisco to meet venture capitalists KA-CHING.Also taking part in the event are co-founder of AirTree Daniel Petre, Sass & Bide co-founder Sarah-Jane Clarke, Appliances Online founder John Winning, and Sweaty Betty founder Roxy Jacenko.UberPITCH will be taking place in Sydney on 29 October, with plans to take place in other cities to be announced soon.
