EXPECTATIONS AND NATURE OF THE POSITIONThe Financial Aid Advisor has overall responsibility for managingand tracking the College’s student loan programs, coordinating andadministering the Federal Work Study program, ExternalScholarships, and is the College’s Veteran School CertifyingOfficial. Responsible for providing information to students,prospective students, and parents concerning the financial aidprocess and available assistance as a part of Mustang Central. Thisindividual also serves as the Acting Financial Aid Director in theDirector’s absence. Some evening work and travel is required.The Financial Aid Advisor must exercise discretionary judgmentin assessing student eligibility and must communicate accurateinformation to students and student applicants. This individualmust remain knowledgeable of all types of financial aid includingTitle IV aid, as well as institutional and Foundation grants andscholarships, Veteran’s educational benefits, other governmentalbenefits, work-study opportunities, and loans. The Financial AidAdvisor performs duties in an office characterized by heavy studentand staff traffic. All contacts with the public and with othercollege employees must be cordial and professional.It is expected that this individual will accomplish assignedduties in an efficient, effective and competent manner, and strivefor improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally,this individual must understand the comprehensive role of thecommunity college and cooperate and work harmoniously with collegepersonnel and the public. This individual must follow all collegepolicies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to thisposition.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE1. Responsible for the operation of the student loan programs;initiates and tracks student loan activity and provides ongoingcommunication with all involved parties. Develops and implementsprocedures and provides staff training as necessary for theaccurate and efficient processing of student loans.2. Designs and manages a student loan default prevention programfor individuals and groups including loan counseling, entranceinterviews, exit interviews, and other default prevention tacticsinvolving students, parents, lenders, and Financial Aid personnel.Assists students with default cure procedures. Oversees defaultmanagement and reduction strategies in conjunction with theCollege’s third-party default management company.3. Bachelor’s degree in a business, higher education, or relatedfield.2. Two years progressively more responsible related workexperience.3. Experience with administrative computer databases.4.
